Jack Hulland Elementary School is now in its third year as a Ready-to-Learn (R2L) School, a universal support initiative serving all Yukon students. The R2L program is based on the principle that students are most prepared to learn when they feel calm and safe; meeting these foundational needs is essential before effective learning can occur.
A key component of this initiative is teacher training in the Neurosequential Model in Education (NME), developed by Dr. Bruce Perry, a leading expert in brain development and trauma. Informed by over 30 years of research, the NME framework shapes our daily interactions and teaching practices at JHES. We have already trained two groups of pilot teachers in this approach, and this year, eight more educators are participating in the program.
We recognize that some of the language associated with R2L and NME may be unfamiliar to parents. To help our school community understand what being an R2L school means and clarify common terms, we have provided a few brief videos below that we use with staff.
