Yukon Personal Mobile Device Policy
Beginning this school year, the Government of Yukon has introduced a new Personal Mobile Device Use in Schools Policy. Under the new policy, students in Kindergarten to Grade 7 are not permitted to use personal mobile devices during the school day, except where an approved exception applies.
At JHES, our response to misuse will be educational, progressive, and grounded in positive relationships. Consistent with our Ready to Learn and Neurosequential Model in Education (NME) informed practices, staff will respond calmly and respectfully, preserve student dignity, and avoid power struggles while supporting students in meeting expectations.
For a first misuse, the device will be brought to the school office and securely stored until the end of the school day, when it will be returned to the student. For subsequent misuse, the device will be brought to the office and a parent or guardian will be required to collect it. Continued or repeated misuse will involve further collaboration between the student, family, and school administration to support the student in meeting expectations.
We ask families to review the new expectations with their children before the start of the school year and throughout the year. Families who need to contact their child during the school day can continue to contact the school office, and we will ensure messages are passed along.
